GAM continues its commitment to energy transition with self-consumption installations in partnership with TotalEnergies

GAM (BME: GALQ) has completed the installation of nearly 400 photovoltaic panels at its headquarters in Granda (Asturias). This initiative, part of the company's Sustainability Plan, represents a first step towards self-sufficiency, which will continue at the San Fernando de Henares (Madrid) branch and other multinational centers. For this installation, GAM has collaborated with the multi-energy company TotalEnergies.

Moreover, the project reinforces GAM's commitment to using energy from renewable sources across all its centers in Spain. In this regard, as a reference, the National Commission on Markets and Competition (CNMC) certified that throughout 2021, GAM consumed 1,798 MWh of energy with 100% renewable origin (including hydro, wind, solar photovoltaic, and biomass in the mix). Following the agreement with TotalEnergies, the energy consumed by the Asturian company at the relevant locations will continue to be 100% certified renewable energy.

TotalEnergies is the fourth largest energy provider in the country, with a clear commitment to bringing renewable energy to more people and businesses. The company aims to address the dual challenge of achieving lower emissions and meeting the growing global energy demand while meeting its ambitious decarbonization goals. Its most immediate goal is to reduce net CO2 emissions by 40% between 2025 and 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2050 to position itself in the top 5 worldwide in renewable energy.

Through the total number of panels deployed in Asturias (393) and, soon, in Madrid (176), CO2 emissions will be reduced by 1,060 tons, equivalent to 4,239 trees planted, with an annual energy production of 315,678 kWh.

In this way, GAM demonstrates its commitment to environmental sustainability and the progressive achievement of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.

“With this project, GAM is acting against climate change by reinforcing responsible management in line with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) defined by the UN. Through our consumption of energy from 100% renewable sources, we reduce CO2 emissions into the atmosphere. Additionally, we gain efficiency, achieving significant savings on the electricity bill with a lower impact of our activity on the natural environment,” said José Luis Roza, Director of People and Culture at GAM, who oversees the management of the company's Sustainability Plan.

Meanwhile, Javier Sáenz de Jubera, President of TotalEnergies Electricity and Gas, stated that “this agreement shows TotalEnergies’ commitment to renewable energy sources and to companies as their ideal energy partner on the path to energy transition and decarbonization. TotalEnergies has made available to GAM its team of solar self-consumption experts and all our energy to offer tailored solutions that help them save and increase their sustainability. GAM’s trust reinforces our belief that our growth project in Spain, in energy marketing and services, sustainable mobility, and solar energy for businesses and individuals, will be a success.”
