Movicarga, a Spanish magazine specializing in the latest developments in the machinery sector, interviewed Luis Turiel, GAM’s Fleet Director. In the interview, he discusses GAM’s “I’ll Buy It” campaign, which aims to “make the service associated with purchasing obsolete equipment more directly known to customers.” As Turiel emphasizes, the Company offers this service “with the assurance that comes from being specialists in equipment appraisal,” always with the principle of “satisfying the customer.”

Mov.- A few months ago, you launched a campaign called “I’ll Buy It,” looking for used machinery. Why a campaign like this?
Luis Turiel.- Because GAM is a company in constant evolution. In recent years, thanks to international growth, accumulated experience in the sector, and the synergies and operational advantages generated, we have been incorporating new business lines focused on service: maintenance, training, transportation and logistics, insurance, and the buying and selling of machinery and spare parts. In this last area, we are continually developing to offer customized services that clients may need, whether it’s buying, appraising, or locating and supplying the equipment that best suits their needs. With this campaign, we aim to make the service associated with purchasing obsolete equipment or simply monetizing their investment more directly known to customers.
Mov.- What type of machinery do you buy?
Luis Turiel.- Any type of equipment, really. Platforms, trucks, industrial and all-terrain forklifts, generators, telehandlers... Whether individual units or entire fleets.
Mov.- What values does GAM bring with this service?
Luis Turiel.- In response to our clients' need to monetize investments that no longer provide value or simply want to renew, GAM offers this service with the assurance that comes from being specialists in equipment appraisal. Among the most notable advantages of 'I’ll Buy It' are cash payment and our extensive coverage, which allows us to reach clients wherever they are.
Mov.- What do you do with these machines afterward?
Luis Turiel.- Once received, they undergo a thorough inspection, and necessary reconditioning work is planned. After this process, these units become part of our stock. The current demand for used equipment is broad and varied, requiring us to keep our stock constantly updated to meet 100% of the needs presented to us. Additionally, the quality and safety we offer with our reconditioned equipment, combined with very competitive prices, make us, in my opinion, one of the best options for sourcing used equipment.
Mov.- Where do you recondition the machines?
Luis Turiel.- At any of the 100 workshops we have. In fact, it's not uncommon to find some buy-and-sell equipment at any of them.
Mov.- How many people are working in the machinery reconditioning department?
Luis Turiel.- As I mentioned earlier, part of our success lies in the synergies and operational advantages we have. We have a commercial network that includes more than 300 people in 14 countries, as well as 550 specialized technicians. This, combined with a department focused on used equipment sales, means we have a great team with a clear goal of providing the best service to the client.
Mov.- How many machines have you reconditioned and sold so far?
Luis Turiel.- Perhaps more relevant than the number – which is very high in any case – is the investment made by the company to date, amounting to over 30 million euros.
Mov.- Are you looking to buy in Spain or also outside Spain?
Luis Turiel.- We are currently acquiring equipment in Spain, of course, but also in Europe and Latin America, without ruling out other markets. The reality is that we started by focusing on Europe, but today we also reach many markets in countries on other continents. Not only are we present in the 14 countries where we operate our rental business, but in many more places where we already have loyal customers as well as occasional ones. Our website: www.gamusado.com makes this possible. It’s simple and intuitive, and in fact, there will be many good surprises in 2016...
Mov.- Do you buy from any company?
Luis Turiel.- What interests us are the equipment and its condition, regardless of who owned it.
Mov.- Are the prices you offer competitive?
Luis Turiel.- Without a doubt. Our experience allows us to make appraisals at very attractive prices for our clients.
Mov.- Considering that the price of used machinery has risen recently because there’s more demand than supply, is this still profitable?
Luis Turiel.- The used market will always be there. There are clients who cannot or do not want to buy new equipment, but that doesn’t mean they will give up on a good product. The quality and safety we offer with our equipment are the reasons why our clients choose us and place their trust in us. Today, we market two types of products: used equipment in perfect working condition and used equipment with “Premium” finishes, in which we carry out a complete overhaul with an additional warranty included in the price.
Mov.- What goals have you set for this year?
Luis Turiel.- Our goal is undoubtedly to continue growing, and for that, the key is customer satisfaction. Without it, nothing is possible in this business.
