GAM launches the largest industrial machinery re-manufacturing plant in Europe

  • Under the name Reviver, the multinational GAM aims to introduce the circular economy into the sector with this machinery re-manufacturing plant.
  • Reviver is a ground-breaking initiative that is set to revolutionise the way machinery procurement and use is perceived. This initiative will prolong the lifespan of machinery through re-manufacturing and spare parts generation.
  • Nestled in the heart of the province of León, the town of Villacé will be home to the new plant, bringing much-needed employment opportunities to a region struggling with depopulation.

Villacé (León), 13 December 2023. GAM, a listed Spanish multinational company (BME: GAM), which is a leading provider of comprehensive solutions and services for industry, has unveiled Reviver, a ground-breaking machinery re-manufacturing plant that will pioneer the circular economy model in the sector

Every year in Spain, a staggering 4,000 forklifts, just a fraction of the machinery used in industry, reach the end of their productive lifespan. In response to this unsustainable paradigm, Reviver’s raison d’être is to revolutionise the traditional linear model of extracting, manufacturing and disposing of machinery, embracing a more conscious and responsible approach that prioritises sustainability and efficiency.

With this objective, Reviver was founded. Reviver is a ground-breaking initiative that will fundamentally alter our perception of machinery procurement and usage, empowering customers and suppliers to fulfil their sustainability pledges.

With this launch, Reviver will create a positive impact on the environment. Reviver will extend the lifespan of machinery by re-manufacturing used equipment and generating spare parts, effectively giving machines a second life. It will also contribute to reducing new machinery production.

Reviver is the largest machinery re-manufacturing plant in Europe, with a surface area of 200,000 m2. It aims to reintroduce approximately 3,000 refurbished machines back into the market in Spain and throughout Europe every year, effectively reducing CO2 emissions by a staggering 9,000 tonne per year, equivalent to the carbon footprint of manufacturing 7,500 cars.

Reviver, an opportunity for depopulated areas in Spain and employability

Reviver’s machinery re-manufacturing plant is located in Villacé (a small town in the province of León). Specifically, in an old ceramics factory that ceased operations in 2016.

For its construction, GAM adhered to the principles of sustainability, incorporating recycled materials into the design and construction process. This approach eliminates the need for new infrastructure and also revitalises the site and its immediate environment, positively impacting the local biodiversity.

Reviver’s launch will bring about employment opportunities in a region grappling with significant depopulation. An estimated workforce of over 150 employees is expected to be operational at Reviver once it reaches full capacity. Further reinforcing its commitment to local employment, Reviver has partnered with Soltra to ensure a portion of the jobs created are specifically reserved for individuals with diverse abilities.

GAM champions sustainability in the industrial sector

As a frontrunner in the machinery industry, GAM has been a steadfast advocate for sustainability, dedicating years to exploring innovative approaches that revolutionise industry practices and positively impact society. Through its ‘Embracing Sustainability’ strategy, the multinational seamlessly integrates sustainability principles across all aspects of its operations, ensuring a continuous and unwavering commitment to environmental and social responsibility.

The launch of Reviver stands as a testament to GAM’s unwavering commitment to creating a positive impact on the environment and the communities it serves.
